From one of her submissions. Haha, you don't even want crits bitch, why should anyone bother leaving a comment? A favorite is good enough to tell you they liked it. You want them to comment with WHY they liked it, yet they can't critique you on anything? That's completely stupid. You don't deserve asspats on your willfull ignorance.

Also, I've seen her get critiqued before and she usually deletes the submission afterwards. One notable picture was of her super speshul unikue sparkledawg's mouth up close and the lower jaw was horrendously malformed and jacked up. When someone pointed this out to her, she got defensive and deleted it from her gallery. She makes a lot of wonky, preventable anatomy mistakes in her art that she could easily fix/work on/correct with critique, but she's too defensive and spineless to take even the most gentle advice. Basically, she retardifies anatomy and calls it her "style". No, bitch, you just don't understand basic anatomy. Then she deflects blame by saying she's only eighteen or seventeen or still in high school or whatever it is. Sorry, sweetheart, but you and only you are responsible for your art and if it's subpar, it's subpar. Coming up with excuses just shows that you- dun dun dunnnn- NEED CRITIQUE.

the thing is she absolutely has to be lying. professors and teachers *love* to teach talented, gifted students, unless your school sucks dick it's hard to find a single solitary art teacher who doesn't enjoy working with a gifted student. i enjoyed my foundations classes because all of the professors were extremely positive and eager to work with students who could draw well - hell, even work with the ones who didn't.

the only possible explanation as to why her professors "picked on" her is that she has a repellent fucking personality and hates critiques and hates learning. people like this draw for attention. they don't like the challenge that comes with expanding your horizons as an artist.

i dont know about college professors, but my highschool teachers would treat people like absolute shit if they showed more knowledge or talent then they did.

my friends and i always got shit from our art and computer teachers because we just generally knew more then they did at the subjects (talking more about computer classes here). we wouldnt brag, we would just finish the assignments faster and easier than the other students. and we would usually offer to help the other students afterwards.

for some reason, this pissed the teachers off to the point of giving us detention for no reason.

Agreeing with Fiz -- High school can suck for an artist that shows any sort of promise beyond that of a human copy machine. The more I took outside courses and seminars during HS, the worse my grades became from one of my teachers, even while the other art staff was asking to use some of my work as samples for future assignments.

It was incredibly discouraging. To the point that he lobbied to make sure a guy that wasn't even pursuing art in college ended up with nearly all of the school scholarships for the department.

Man, your high schools must have blown. My high school art teachers ruled. It was typical high school bullshit art classes, but the teachers loved it when you were really into your work and took initiative. I guess being into your art in high school was hard to come by. I know most people took it to get out of taking a foreign language requirement, so it must have been kind of a downer to see so many kids just not care. I think it really made their day to see kids who took it seriously and they worked pretty hard to nurture that interest.

I wouldn't argue to the contrary, though. I know high school is often lame for a lot of people. But I agree with >>2509 that sometimes kids mistake hard lessons as "being picked on." Kind of in the way that some kids think parents being strict are trying to ruin their lives with their RULES.

For an art self portrait assignment I shattered a mirror, and did a very realistic portrait in pencil referencing from the pieces of the mirror... I hate my own art but this was the best piece I ever did. My art teacher marked on the ORIGINAL in fucking RED PEN in big letters that the contrast wasn't great enough, then STAPLED a contrast sheet to it. I didn't do art for like 5 years because of that experience.

No offense but if I had a student like her where I saw talent and I tried to help her improve, but she acted like the sun shined out of her ass, I'd be pretty annoyed too. I had students in my classes like that in HS and Middle school, especially middle school, they were pricks. Chiming in late here--I had a terrible art teacher in high school. She was okay with me when I was taking the basic Art 101 class in my freshman year, but I hadn't really discovered anthros yet so my thing was more... fuzzy dragons, if I recall. She didn't have a problem with it then, but I was doodling my ~fursona~ during downtime when I was in the more advanced class with her senior year. That created a whole multitude of issues, including public shaming by refusing to use my real name (she misread it when calling roll the first time, but no amount of correcting her changed that), taking a moment during each assignment to ask me in front of the class, "What are you going to turn in? Cartewwwwns?" (why she was so convinced I would, I'm not sure), "losing" most of the things I turned in and accusing me of lying, etc.

Honestly, though, I think that had more to do with her just having some personal issue with an art form she didn't think was "valid" than my own talent. I've never been a skilled artist and my work blew really badly back then (having even a shred of talent at all does at least put one a rung above the others who are in the art class just to fill an elective slot--I'm sure this artist was at least distinctive in her class for having the ability to draw at all), and yeah furries aren't the most mature subject matter. This lady (and this girl's art teacher) could have possibly been jealous, but from my experience it's likely some jerk who doesn't think it's "real art" or some bullshit.

I pretty much think the picture above is a good example. Granted her art is shitty alone, but you can tell she used crappy quality markers. It's true, the quality of markers doesn't exactly make the artist SUDDENLY AMAZING, but I think it certainly helps. Look at the commission for example, it blurs like holy hell, they don't seem to have blended very well, and you can see the streaks. I'd like to think if she used better quality stuff you wouldn't have that happen as much. If you look at her other shit I've seen it happen as well.

Plus with the bic pen thing, I just find it weird that she sketches shit out with that, I don't care if she uses it as a medium. Granted I love using bic pens myself, but when is it a good idea to sketch out commissions?? I just get the idea that once she sketches it out, she doesn't fix any errors, you can't much with pens :/ That's what I meant by the bic pens. And my point still stands where apparently she wants to be this oh so great artist, but she doesn't seem to try with anything she does with art. All of the things everyone has stated above are great examples of this.

let's not be faggots about art supplies, kids. she is not using "poor quality" markers, if you think what appear to be mostly (poorly utilized) copic markers as best i can tell are "poor quality" then you're probably the same kind of trust fund baby whose parents send them to an art institute with a full 50 pack of copic markers their first year.

but, for real: it's much less the markers themselves and more that a great deal of beginning users of copic markers don't understand the fundamentals of blending colors - and not just one darker shade of a color into that same, lighter shade of that color, but actually blending colors to form new colors and define planes through the use of colors created by blending said markers.

in short it's not her supplies - it's that she's bad at using them. a good artist does not treat their tools as a crutch - they learn to use them to their advantage.

Using cheap markers leaves streaks and the colour choices are very limited and pretty much everything in her gallery, you can see the weird sketch lines of her pen, ruining the whole picture for absolutely no god damn reason. I don't think using printer paper is such a bad thing, tbh. I use it, I don't think it's that bad of a crutch. I actually much prefer it to some fancier more expensive papers I've tried. :S

I mean, you can't copyright skulls, but it's the exact. same. idea. Skulls but with character features. I love how she basically gives away exactly where she got the idea from, and if you look at Sab's, you can see that Doom's skulls are just dollar store rip-offs of them. So far I haven't seen Sabarika throw a shitfit over it either so maybe she doesn't care or has worked something out with DG, but is it considered "disrespectful" to offer those as commissions for almost half the price Sabarika does or would it simply be competition? She was very nice but had to go back and forth with coffeedog or whatever because Coffee kept suggesting and insisting that it's not illegal and doom can do whatever she wants. Eh, she is getting pretty solid with some of her coloring abilities--fancy supplies or not--but she definitely needs to keep working on her basics. Anatomy, perspective, and all those boring little things that culminate to create an aesthetically pleasing picture. I'd like to see her play with perspective and adding backgrounds, line weight and distribution, and just plain good 'ole anatomy practices either from real life or stock photos somewhere. Pretty much what ANY artist should work on at some point, but her especially if she wants to improve beyond "I have a kewl greendog hot topic char, durr hurrr i am so good that I'm like a PRO, check out my Crayola collection"

She tends to do the heads big. Her anatomy can be alright but the proportions are messed up. But really I think the FLOOF around its head makes it look huge.
